The Shree Siddhivinayak Temple at Prabhadevi is among Mumbai's most revered and thronged shrines, drawing millions who regard the Lord as Navasacha Ganpati, the Ganesha who fulfils vows. The original small temple was built on 19 November 1801 by the devotee Laxman Vithu Patil and Deubai Patil, later expanded into today's grand multi-tiered, gold-domed complex. The central murti, about two and a half feet, is carved from a single block of black stone with its trunk tilted to the right, the Siddhi-Vinayaka form associated with spiritual discipline (sadhana). Four-armed, the deity holds a lotus and an axe in the upper hands and a rosary and a bowl of modaks in the lower, and is flanked by the consorts Riddhi and Siddhi. Devotees throng especially on Tuesdays, held sacred to Ganesha here, and for the pre-dawn Kakad Aarti. Festivals: Ganesh Chaturthi and the ten-day Ganeshotsav are the grandest, along with Maghi Ganesh Jayanti and Angarki Chaturthi.
