The Life
Sadaya Nayanar (Sadaiyanar) was a pious Shaiva Brahmin of Tirunavalur and the father of Sundarar, one of the four great Tevaram saints. He and his wife Isaignaniyar are themselves counted among the sixty-three Nayanmars, Sundarar being unique in that both his birth parents are venerated as saints. Sekkizhar dedicates but a single verse to Sadaya, praising him as a devotee of the Lord's servants and honouring him chiefly as the father of the boy Nambiyarurar (Sundarar), whom the child adored. His quiet, faithful service and the son he gave to the Shaiva world earned him a lasting place among the Lord's servants and won him Shiva's grace. His guru puja is observed in the month of Markazhi under the star Thiruvadhirai.
