ஸ்ருங்கலா தேவி கோயில்Shrunkhala Devi Shakti Peetha
Sthala Mahātmyam
Shrunkhala (Srinkhala) Devi is invoked as 'Pradyumne Shrinkhala devi', placing the third peetha at Pradyumna, generally identified with Pandua in Hooghly district of West Bengal. Tradition holds that the belly, or in some accounts the shrinkhala (the chain-like girdle) of Sati, fell here, giving the goddess her name; she is worshipped as a form of Durga bearing a chain. Uniquely among the eighteen, this peetha has no surviving temple: the ancient shrine was destroyed during medieval invasions, and the sacred site today is marked only by remnants. Because of this loss, its precise location is contested. Some place it at Pandua, others in the Ganga Sagar (Adinath) region of southern Bengal, and a further tradition connects it with the sage Rishyasringa's worship near Sringeri in Karnataka. Devotees nonetheless honour it as one of the original eighteen Maha Shakti Peethas named by Adi Shankaracharya. The goddess is remembered as the bestower of complete spiritual revelation, having graced the sage Rishyasringa. Navaratri and Durga Puja are the occasions on which her memory is especially venerated.
