On a hill of 365 steps, Thiruthani (Thanigai) is where Murugan's battle-fury cooled into serenity and where he wedded Valli, the hunter-chieftain's daughter. Revered as his most tranquil abode — 'thanindha' meaning cooled — it is beloved for peace of mind. The dawn worship of Aadi Krittikai and Vaikasi Visakam are grand here, and it is celebrated in Sangam and Bhakti-era hymns as the northern gateway of the six abodes.
